Round 7 VS Knox

Well we are back in the winners circle this week thanks to a stellar performance from everyone involved. Rebounding from a game last week in which we should have won with a win over long time villains Knox. We finally did the things we did needed to do....like not make 38 errors a game and leave runners stranded.

We had a new bloke called up this week due to an outbreak of swine flu that ravaged the lineup. His name was Ben Kernick. This kid could do it all, kinda....apart from make a decent coffee (Kids these days!). He was solid in the field including a play that made the crowd weep. It was certainly not out with the guy already passing the base and doing up a shoelace. But the umpire deemed it to be a play worth getting a mention in this match report so he called him out. .....good job though New Guy.

Whiteballs started on the mound for his 3rd game this season and was in control all day, picking up a massive 9 punchouts (Yes 9 Liam!!!) The infield finally looked sharp with no errors being made all day, apart from the horrible line up along 1st base done by the 450 game veteran Lester Ellis. Horrible! You’ve played 450 games and STILL don’t know how to mark a line? Not really sure what to say about that. ANYWAY!

Brief Rundown of the game -

Pat – Turn to page 187 in your baseball textbooks and you will see a picture of Pat laying down the perfect bunt that stops perfectly on the line in between 3 Knox fielders. Caught a hell of a game and he is just an all round good bloke. Lied about going to the Mouse Cup though, gonna have to take him down a few pegs.

Whiteballs – Pitched 6 good digs of shutout baseball. And struck out 9 batters Liam. Also picked 2 good hits including one to plate a well needed run in the last inning.

Screeeeetch – Down from the ones to play with the real stars. Solid in RF with no balls going near him. Picked up some good whacks including a 3RBI Triple piece feed in the last to put us up for good. Lester – His 450th game and certainly didn’t disappoint the crowd by collecting 3 “ass out” jabs to RF and one up the middle. Still wasn’t good enough to win the little game that we play with the base hits with Himself, Whiteballs and Screeeeetch vying for the drink at the end of the game. He was outgunned by the younger, better looking duo.

Rat – Didnt really do much. Came in and pitched the last innings which was nice of him.

Jake – Rocked up late, had a minus scorecard and then took himself out of the game citing a “Football” Injury. I think it was possibly due to the fact that he was -2 and didn’t want to take sole possession of the worst effort.

The Biggest 15yo Ive ever seen (Dan) – Got a couple of good whack to plate some runs when we needed them. Good work.

Corn on the Kernick (I haven’t got a good nickname yet) – Good game from the new guy.

So we have a week off for the long weekend so rest up because we have got Research who have come out of no where to be in the top 4. Lets see if we cant knock them out of it.

Round 6 VS Melb Uni

This week saw us venturing down to Essendons ground....or Melbourne Unis 37th ground in 6 months. The game was put back 15 minutes as it does every year due to water restrictions so we all decided to rock up to the game Hungover (Whiteballs/Porno) / late (everyone except 3) / wrong ground (I won’t name names but it was Pat). So it wasn’t the makings of a great start to the day. Warm-up was horrible with no infield/outfield due to lack of numbers, we thought about possibly putting a uniform on a dog or a cactus in RF simply to make up the numbers.
The game started off with Sean smashing one to somewhere as usual, someone else did something and Whiteballs got plugged by a 34mph curveball which was the average speed for the day of the opposing pitcher. And boy were we fooled! It was like he was a magician weaving his crafty magic against us, but it wasn’t. It was an old bloke throwing slop at us and comprehensively beating us until late in the game. Whitey Snr wasn’t fooled though being the Vet he is and smashed one to knock in our first run. Almost a homerun Whitey...almost. Good job though. Whiteballs started his second game thus far and struck out the first guy of the game....he had red hair and a red beard so he deserved it. Then got smashed around for 2 innings but settled down for the rest of the game, threw groundballs for outs....but they never came with errors again making the difference on the day. Easy outs which should have been.....ahhh easy outs! We have to knuckle down on those plays otherwise teams that can beat us, will beat us. And no one wants that.
A couple of highlights for the game.
• Sean seemed to smash it all game, pity about his red hair.
• Whiteballs threw well and got a good RibEye Dooooobleeeeeeyyyy in the last dig.
• Ryan was fantastic behind the dish. Called a good game and didn’t let anything past him....well maybe one or two. How could you!
• Pat for showing up to the wrong ground. Not really a highlight just thought Id mention it again.
• Porno for only bringing his handbag out once. But leave that effing thing at home!
• Whitey Snr for putting the fear of god into baserunners everywhere and smashing a Double. Then striking out a few times.
• Kingy for giving himself an uppercut and making his nose bleed for 3 hours.
• Macrae, for dragging himself. Nice Hips.
Thats it for this week lads. We need to knuckle down in the field and not hang our pitchers out there to dry. Well, one in particular anyways. It seems that no errors are being made when someone else pitches......trying to tell him something? I hate...I mean...he doesn’t know why! WHY!
Get down to training, swing the bats, get some fielding practice in and lets beat the hell out of Knox. We owe them for some reason no doubt. One last thing. GAME TIME IS 12:15PM THIS WEEK!!!!!!! Anyone late will be forced to have Sean do a striptease on them. And No one wants that. Trust me. I know.

Round 5 VS Croydon

GMBC 4 – CROYDON 1
Round 5 saw the sheeps with horns come to the oriole dome. Rhys “im way too sick to play this week and im only here to make up the bare 9” Otter took the mound battling off a fearsome case of swine flu and started off a bit shaky when the lestersaurus smoked a shot up the middle to get the game under way. This was soon turned around however when he lived up to his names sake and got doubled off at 1st base when he came back at dino-speed! (the first of 2 “rat like” base running displays for the day). Game on.
Soon after the rams took a 1-0 lead but this was pegged back after the newly dubbed “RJ” knocked us in a run to tie it up 1-1 (newly dubbed as mr jenks showed distress about always turning around to look when he heard “ryno” which was actually ryan lea).
After a good but short stint from fellow redsox nation member (short because captain smurf limited his pitch count after an uncapped week at schoolboys mind you), jake “the muss” came in and held the game close for a few innings at 1-1.
Towards the later stages of the game the rams threatened to take the lead with a runner on and 2 out. Jake did a good job and managed to get a ground ball out of the next hitter. “The Rat” very uncharacteristically decided that he wanted to share his D&G handbag this week as he hadn’t had 1 ground ball all day so as the ground ball approached RJ at 3rd, the rat handballed his bag across and said “here jenks, you have a go”. RJ, in total disgust (one can only imagine as to the colour maybe?) gathered the grounder in the D&G but slammed it into the turf on the way over to 1st…still showing signs of disgust towards the colour selection. With little choice, co-coach macca/ walking wounded /local dip distribution officer knew the game was on the line and decided the play must be made, so he stretched down the line and gathered it up with what some say was “the hand of god”.
In what we thought we would be the last dig, the top of the order came up for monty but after 2 up 2 down, things were a little flat. PK came to the dish next and in a disciplined at bat, unleashed all types of fury and smashed a single to deep deep 2nd base in what can only be described as placement perfection. There were whispers in the crowd that the late arrival of coach whitey snr had an impact. After pinching 2nd base, RJ made contact with an infield grounder but heads up base running saw PK turn the corner and score whilst the rams watched it in slow motion. Monty up 2-1. We then managed to tack on another 2 insurance runs.
Thinking we needed 3 outs for the W, the rat relieved young jake after the lead off hitter reached base. He came in with a NO HANDBAGS ATTITUDE, left it with RJ and shut down the rams.
Still with time left, we headed up for another dig with the bat and with 2 out young Simon Fitzmaurice strutted from the on deck circle towards the batters box. Big Neil behind the dish, fearing what the young slugger could do, decided to call time and game. The look on his face was shear disappointment, there may have even been a tear but none the less, we win.
Next week we travel to the unibombers home ground to take on the unicorns at their 3rd ground in 3 years. None of the venues have been a delight to travel to but hey, its still better than driving to broadford! Lets keep up the intensity boys and look to keep the wins coming!
Signing off,
macca/walking wounded/local dip distribution officer

Round 4 VS Westgarth

Well……what a game. In what should have been a whitewash of our opposition, it turned out to be a draw. Which is just like tongue kissing your dog. I know, Sean told me.
With Whiteballs on the mound for the first time, things looked scary for the opposing batters. Not in a “Oh god, this guys is going to throw piles of F*** you at us today!” More like “Oh God!! Who will be hit first!” Well, it was the guy at 1B right in the kidney. RUB IT LATER!!!! And Im pretty sure I saw him cry and then smelt something resembling poop. ITS POOP AGAIN!
Now, the opposing pitcher seemed to shove our bats square up our anuses for the better part of the game. We climbed back in the end to tie it up but it should never have been that close.
There were no good things to mention about in the field for Saturday unfortionately and that’s why the score ended up at 8-8. No need to dwell on it but all of the runs that they scored were Unearned. Some highlights……Whiteballs struck out the first batter of the game thus earning himself a beer from Whitey in right field who had a world of confidence in his starter betting him that he would “Walk the first batter in 4 pitches.” WRONG! The Umpire for looking like Peter Griffen, if I knew how to write down how he laughs I would but you get the drift. The guys that won their matchups for the game. Whitey pronouncing that errors would now be a negative score…which came back to bite him in the arse.
All in all it was a terrible day, at a terrible park, terrible fielding, terrible EVERYTHING! Good company though. Tough game against Croydon this week though boys, they always seem to either stick it to use or get pumped by us, let’s hope it’s the latter.
Sauce will be doing the match reports next week as Whiteballs has to fly to South Africa to save some wild apes from poachers. Good bloke that one.

Round 3 VS Greensborough

GMBC vs The Slime
Righto, so another win this week although not as convincing as previous weeks.
No one did ANYTHING for the first few innings except for Jake braiding Ryan Lea’s hair and the first play of the game where the leadoff batter for the Slime with some kind of...bunt/pop up/ninja ball that slipped its way in between Porno and Ryno landing 2 feet from both of them. And you can’t blame the sun/cloud/passing seagull flock Ryan. You were thinking about something else. Maybe “Gee I look good today!”
BACK TO THE GAME!
We only had 1 new old kid this week with the other traitor seeing what he could do up in the Firsts.....good job though Kingy, Well done...traitor. Ryan picked up a few hits and caught and called a solid game. Porno was on the mound today, he had a DH today due to the fact that he set the world alight the week before with 3 punchies and a minus scorecard (You will never live it down). Rat threw a complete game and even had time, after getting a 4 run buffer at one stage, to bring out his handbag and airmail it to RF......AGAIN! However it wasn’t only Steele that brought his D&G accessory, Pat Kerr helped us out this week with his first game bringing the crowds back to witness his Gucci Handbag not once....but TWICE in an innings we will not soon forget. And also crossing up his fellow teammate not once, but TWICE in one At Bat. What a comeback game! Anywho, we battled back to 5-5. It was the last innings when in what can only be called a stroke of coaching Brilliance Andy didn’t step on the base for the sure out with a bulldozer making its way up the line which would have made it 2 out and 6-5 down. In another piece of brilliance, the bible on baseball rules, Coach White sprinted in from LF Screaming at the umpire declaring the outs at the top of his mountain only to be told that it was only 2 out.....back to LF pal!
So it all came down to the last innings heroics of the top of the lineup in Scrawny, Mr Kerr(Straight from Milan with his new designer Handbag) and Whiteballs. Sean – Raked a single to right on a beautiful swing. Kerr – Double. White – Stinking pissrod to 3rd base in which the fielder was trying to swat a fly away and APARENTLY made contact ruling the hit an error............which scored both runs and thus, winning us the game............an Error? Really? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
We put on 1 more run to secure a win that should have been much easier but a win is a win. The game was full of highlights and lowlights, and almost saw the debut performance from the one known as Whiteballs. He assures me that he wouldn’t have hit anyone......he thinks. Maybe next week? Westgarth at Westgarth this week lads.......JOY!
Deelle

Round 2 VS Watsonia

GMBC 11 to Watsonia 3
Solid game by the boys this week. A bit of a slow start for us as Watsonia had a young kid throwning fairly hard side arm stuff. Turns out Rat really is not a big fan of side arm with 3 K`s for the day breaking records with our points system with -3 points. Good work Rat. Zuc or Craig David started again for us but was throwing more poo than normal Zuc. Poor Zuc had a sore arm from last week so he only lasted a couple digs and watsonia took advantage of Zuc`s sore arm and got an early lead. Monty decided to wake up and got on top with some good hitting by Kingy and some of the others but not Rat.
On the mound for us was Whitey Senior next. Whitey pitched great shutting down watsonia with a pitch sequence slop strike, slop strike, gas, sit down, brilliant. Fun to watch.Next the monty boys broke open the game with great hitting by all. The young kids all contributed in the game with Sam getting a sweet RBI hit and Ryno got a hit, Also Jake the Muss trying to hose everone with his cannon. Standard scrawny got a couple hits and RBI`s and fielded well, he`s bloody good that kid, also had a sweet as strike out, ooh yeah. Whitey senior hit well and Macca but not Rat. Towards the end of the game with the game pretty much over monty introduced a new young player named Garry Barton. First at bat in many years and as Barts does hit a double for the enjoyment of the crowed and the players. We enjoyed having you back Barts.
Rat pitched at the end of the game and threw some nice cheese to shut down Watsonia, Well done Rat. Get some good cuts in this week pal. You will be right, I believe in you mate. Pianey believes in you to. I took painey to KFC today and he got a family bucket for himself, thats alot of chicken. Does that inspire you Rat. It bloody should.
Whitey junior was missing this week carting around alcohol. Sam got a call up to the firsts to re enter and got a hit first at bat, got some skills does that kid. No rooster song this week, actually i can`t remember the last time I herd the rooster song but thats not a bad thing. Watsonia has some great young talent down there and will be a force in the near future.
The monty 2nd`s this year young and old players are a great squad, we should do very well this year, we have some very talented juniors coming through. Greensy next week on sunday, lets beat up the slime.
Singing off,
Sauce

Round 1 VS Heathmont

Well the ’09 season is underway and its just the way we wanted it too. A good win over the newly named Heathmont Penguins, still not quite sure why the name change. Certainly didn’t help them win. Maybe another name boys?
A lot of new faces and a some old faces either gone or in the ones. We had Craig David on the mound yet again but with no facial hair shaping which we have all grown fond of, Mike Tyson behind the dish, Whiteballs at 1B, Ryan at 2nd, Jake the Muss at 3rd, Porno/Rat/Shit bloke(you can choose what to call him) at SS, Kingy at LF, Oulsss/Scrawny/Tooly at CF and Whitey Snr at RF to round it off. Oh, and the cripple on the bench DH’ing. Craig David threw well for a few innings giving up a few runs along the way but all in all a good effort....apart from the 2 mammo Johnsons from the opposing first baseman who then took himself off to keep his Avg up.
The new kids did a really good job as well with Sam looking very sharp behind the dish, didn’t pick up any hits but looked confident. Jake the muss over at 3rd was solid in the field apart from a few groundballs that hit boulders on the ground and shot off at right angles. A few decent whacks including a nice Triple which plated a few well needed runs.
The old new kids did well, Kingy and Ryan. Picking up a few whacks as well and Kingy (Mr. Are there any ladies in the crowd that liked my throw home) hosing a Garden Vegetable at homeplate which was a momentum killer for Heathmont.
Porno racked up 2 or 3 hits and kind of solid in the field apart from the Handbag he tried throw to 1B which Jesus himself couldn’t even scoop out of the dirt! Scrawny was solid in CF as always and hitting the cover off the ball with a pop up to 2nd base. Take THAT ball!
Whitey Snr and Whiteballs went head to head in a tale of the Tape which saw the younger, more devilishly handsome White come through with the goods on the day to claim a free drink at the end of the game. Whitey Snr racked up a few solid hits as did Whitey Jnr.
All in all it was a resounding win to start off what is poised to be a great year for the Seconds at GMBC. We did everything we had too with everyone doing what was required. No wasted outs which was a real highlight. Just keep doing the same thing each week and we will go a long way....or until the end of the year, whichever comes first.

Signing off,
Deelle

A Reserve

Prelim VS Ringwood

Report to follow.

First Final VS Heathmont

2nds this week lost to Heathmont 7-5 in the first final. The game was at Heathmont but it was our home game. A very disappointing game for the boys but we still have one more chance. Zuke started and struggled but fought very hard which kept us in the game and Rat finnished off the game very well with his pitching. Our offence was ok at the start with a couple of hits to Lester and Rat helping us get 5 runs, but middle of the game we shut up shop and lacked someone who could step up. We managaed a little push at the end but no runs whilst Heathmont scored fairly steadilly throughout the game. Not many hits this game for us. I hope we grow some aggots before this weeks semi final against ringwood or else it will be good night lads in an ugly way. We match up very well player for player against ringwood and have the potential to win and win well. Ringwood are a tuff team and it will be a good game, we just need to play like we have for most of the seaon. We are at doncaster this week at 2.45pm.
PS Painey will be there to inspire us as he finally has a saturday off.
PPS No more shopping before games Rat after your strike out just looking.
PPPS No subway before the game for scrawny.
Signing off after sacking mr match report AC33.....scrawny toolbag

Round 18 VS Ringwood

Monty went down 2-8 in the last game of the home and away season.
This week we took on Ringwood at Proclamation Park, was always going to be testing game and that it was. Zuch had the start and in typical fashion battled though and got us off to a great start. With our relief Pitcher locked into Junior commitments we knew it will always be tough.
In the field, some glimpses of our best, some good plays by Ryan at 3b, Josh at SS, Rat at 2nd and Patty showing his arm behind the dish but it was not enough to stop that last inning by Ringwood. With the bats, Macrae started us off with a captains knock, Ryno stashing another double, Josh another couple, Whitey knock down the line but 2 runs wont win many games.
Look forward to playing them again in the finals with a 'Full strength' line-up!
Next week, First Final, we take on Heathmont @ Heathmont (OUR HOME GAME) 1.30 game time.

Round 17 VS Greensborough

Sunday Game @ Home against Greensborough. We won 9-8.
We've locked in a top 2 finish but the biggest test is next week against Ringwood which should indicate how the finals will go.
Back to the game, Mc Grath started and went 4 digs, improving each week. Amazing poise and maturity for 14!
The ever reliable Zucchet threw the rest of the game in his usual style getting in and out of trouble, but always coming out on top.
Well done again.
Pat Kerr led the way defensively and with the bat with 3 doubles, gaining himself the 'man of the match'!
Others that hit well and got us back in the game were Rat, Macca, Ryno, Jazzio, Josh and Whitey muscled up hitting his first Homer of the year! All great signs for the upcoming weeks...

Round 16 VS Croydon

This week we managed to get over the line in a tight one against Croydon, final score 6-4.
Zucc did a great job once again, forced the hitters into groundballs and stranded quite a few base runners. Rat the 'closer' in relief was awesome bringing the heat and shutting the door!
Hits to the man with hot bat, Ryno driving in some critical runs! Sean coming of early with an old injury flaring up, gave room for Ryan Lea and took the chance smashing a double to rightfield. Rat also adding another triple to his tally!
With Ringwood also winning, it leaves it up the final 2 rounds to see who will take that 'top spot'.
Next week we take on Greensborough in the Heritage round! Don’t forget it's a Sunday!

Round 15 VS Melb Uni

Another win for the Monty 2's!
Walking away with the 11 - 3 win, putting us to equal first place with Ringwood.
Zucc had the start this week, started little shaky but with his usual fighting attitude got out of a few jams and ended with a great result. Good stuff! Rat was the next on the hill and did a fine job in relief.
With the bats, quite slow at the start but as the game went on the hits started to come. Jazzio muscled up left the yard!, Ryno solid as usual for the hottest hitter in baseball!, Rat smashed a couple, Scrawn also with a few knocks, Whitey, Josh, Macca, Kingy, and Nicko good all round effort once again!
Next week we take on Croydon away, needing to maintain that top spot!

Round 14 VS Heathmont

The 2's have another solid win!
Taking on Heathmont and walking away with 12-2 to the good guys , keeping that winning feeling.
On a cold day, far from it for Ryan Jenkins! With his 3 hits, 2 doubles and a Home Run!
Some great team hitting this week, few bunts and a lot of 'small ball' managing to take the 10 run victory.
Solid in the field again, Patty behind the dish, Jazzio keeping busy at Left, Josh at SS, Sean giving us a little scare at CF, Macca at 1B, Rat with good range at 2b, Lester at RF, all feeling comfortable in their positions!..
This week Zucc had the start, showing his class once again on the hill! Backed up by the young lefty McGrath, and another effortless performance! Great pickup just in time for the finals race!
Next week we take on Melb Uni @ home.

Round 13 VS Forest Hill

13 - 3 to the good guys!
This week we took on Forest Hill, on a cold and wet day it took us a while to get going but when we did, no stopping us!
Rat finally got his first start for the year, slow in the beginning but he got better as the game went on. Next on the hill was Mr White with his usual bag of tricks. Then to shut out the game was Josh, fine job for an infielder!'
Defence was on from the start. Some solid plays in the infield. Josh made some good plays from SS, Patty helped out some with double plays and good help at 1b by Macca. Ryan.... 'put a glove on that wrist!'!!!
With the bat, few multiple hits, Josh having a day out with 3 knocks, Ryan Jenkins smashing 2 doubles, Macca 2, Ryan Lea, Patty, Touly and Jazzy all having contributed to the 10 run win!, and not to forget whitey with the off the bench knock!
Lets keep the winning momentum for the remainder of the season.
Next week we take on Heathmont at the Monty Dome, followed by the 50th Anniversary at night! Huge day for the club!

Round 12 VS Watsonia

We played Watsonia who were above us on the ladder. Expecting a tough game, we ended up winning 9-0.
The game was actually alot tougher than the scoreline portrays, some good quality baseball for the first few innings. Both pitchers having control of the game, then as the game went along all the breaks going our way.
Daniel McGrath played his first senior game, pitching 3 scoreless and did a fine job, and as always Daniel looking a picture on the hill!
Daniel Zucchet completed the game with total control as always, his experience really showing and can help the younger McGrath.
Pat Kerr controlled the game behind the dish and also dominated with the bat with several hits.
Others with hits were Sean, MacRae and Carlton. The team is really coming together and couldn't be better timing!
Another opportunity for the 'young ones', King, Reeves, Lea and now McGrath to get some quality game time, and will be vital come finals.
Forest Hill away next week
Looking for another strong win!

Round 11 VS Research

Monty vs Research, 21 - 0 to the good guys!
In a game that was one sided from 'playball' to 'time and game!'
Everyone hit, Everyone walked, Everyone scored!
Matty G was solid performance once again, he got better as the game went along, some help with great defensive plays, and P Kerr behind the dish is a huge bonus.
It was a good chance to give the young kid's a good run, with Kingy making his debut on the bump for us!
Next week Watsonia @ Monty, a vital game towards our finals campaign as they are sitting above us on the ladder.
And finally we got to see young McGrath in action!

Round 10 VS Waverley

A long day at the Waverley Nation. We won 14-1.
Zucchet pitched most of the game and once again did a fine job, making the hitter's looking stupid on several occasions!
Nick Carlton had his first outing on the mound and did well, with that high release point! A nightmare for opponent batters.
Everybody hit, everbody walked!
The young brigade had good game time, with Kingy smashing a single to leftfield!
Only 1 team seemed to be having fun. I thought that`s why we played.
Next week, Research at home.

Round 9 VS Westgarth

10 - 3 to the good guy's.

We had many good batting performances on the day. Josh had 3 hits,
Gerraty and Sean got a couple. Jarrod got on base 4 times  and a stack
of others got hits.
Gerraty had a great workout throwing the whole game. He had great
command of all his pitches with this curve ball working a treat, well
called game by josh aswell.
The highlight of the day was the much welcomed appearance of Anthony
Collis who had an at bat with an RBI single scoring his brother Josh.
It has been almost 3 years since Anthony has played after suffering a
neurological illness. Welcome Back!!
Good game all around, starting to play like we know we can!
Next week Waverley @ Waverley.

Round 8 VS Knox

A win to us 9-3 against Knox.
Zucchet controlled the game on the mound and was ably assisted by Rat who closed it out.
Josh caught for the first time this year and worked well with Daniel.
Jarrod led the way with the bat racking up 3 hits, Macrae got a couple and a few scattered amongst the rest.
Highlight for the day was the spectacular collision in the outfield between Sean and Jarrod. Circus Oz would have been impressed. A sore jaw, a bit of blood and only 1 out.
Next week we take on Westgarth at home.

Round 7 VS Ringwood

We played undefeated Ringwood at took a 9 - 1 loss.
Zooooc started and came out during the 4th inning after throwing midweek. At this time the game was up for grabs.
The Ringwood bats came alive toward the end of the game, and our defence went out the window....
The score line does not reflect the gap between the two teams, we have the talent to beat them next time.
Our bats were quiet again with the exception of Nick Carlton and Josh. Nicko really found some form with the bat smashing it all over the park picking up 2 hits and lining out to centre field.
Next week is the long weekend with no game, lets re-group and come back on the 14th of June and smash Knox like in the past!

Round 6 VS Greensborough

Sunday Bloody Sunday….. Isn't sundays a summer thing?
The two's went down 9 - 3 to Greensborough . We seemed a little lost without Coach White on the mound.
Steele and Liam took on the pitching and did a good job.
The bats were quiet again with only few scattered hits with macrae leading from the top, rat, jazzio, lez, josh with his speedy base running! and the junior boys all contributing but not enough in the end.
A welcome return to Josh after an 8 month break.
Next week Ringwood at home, have a win on the field and with your mouse!
Lets get that winning feeling back!

Round 5 VS Croydon

Washed Out.

Round 4 VS Melb Uni

We travelled to St Kilda`s field at picturesque Albert Park lake to defeat the Reigning Premiers Melbourne Uni 4-1!
The 44 year old pitcher and the 14 year old catcher worked well together.
All of the young brigade played and did well, contributing to the win.
The game had lots of twists and turns with an injury to a Uni player running to 1st, a blank in the lineup, a line drive where the batter walked off thinking it was caught and a very interesting umpire.
Our bats were ok on the day with hits to Liam, Rat, and special mention to Ryan Lea who hit the ball on the nose all day.
We do need to pick to up our baserunning a little though as we are losing to many runners in big situations.
We have a lot more to show next week against Croydon @ home.

Round 3 VS Heathmont

Not a great day for the two's at Heathmont , going down 7-3.
We struggled all round with only a few scattered hits, Steele`s double being a rare highlight.
We were very flat this week and nothing went our way, need to bounce back next week with a 'W'.
Melbourne Uni @ St Kilda next week. Lets get back on the winners board.
No matter what the situation, keep playing the game with respect.

Round 2 VS Forest Hill

A powerful win by the two's. Final score line was 23-1.
Whitey once again controlled the game on the mound with one of his trademark moves 'the crane' working a treat!
All players contributed with the bat with a noteable mention of Gerraty's big bomb. Who ever said 'pitchers cant hit!'
Liam looked very comfortable behind the dish, taking over from brother Jarrod.
Welcome to our 4 new U/17 players, the score allowed us to give them a run in the last dig of the game with John King hitting a triple. They will gain valuable experience being part of this team, in the dugout and on the field when the situation allows it. It was a great team effort, everyone doing their bit. Great intensity once again, I have a feeling that this team will go along way. Heathmont away next week. A good test for the guys.

Round1 VS Watsonia

The seconds got off to a great start to season 2008 defeating Watsonia 8-1 on their home field .
The standout for the game was the intensity and everyone's enthusiasm! top notch guys!, now we have set
the bench mark, now we have to keep it up all year.
Warm welcome to the club to Patrick Kerr. Pat will be a great asset to our club both on and off the field!.
Andrew MacRae had his first win as seconds coach. Well done Andrew for taking on the job.
Whitey weaved his magic on the mound and was ably supported by Rat who closed the game.
Jarrod was solid behind the dish, Willo was good in defence making a spectacular play to end the game!
Liam Crivelli's bat is back in town with 3 hits including a home run, not a bad way to break the 'summer slump!'
Most players contributed with the bat with Macca, Jizzio, Whitey Snr, Patty also getting a few between them.
Well done to the guy's who stepped up from the 3rds last year, Gibbo and Nick.
We have Forest Hill next week at Monty and looking forward to another solid win .
Leaving note, it felt mighty fine to be back in the pin stripes!!!

2007

A Reserve

First Final: VS Greensborough

What a game. We finally won 15- 14.
This game had everything. Woggo started and was a little shaky early but soon got into gear and was in control for most of the game. He tired toward the end and was relieved by Jake. He started off well but lost control, Sean came in and had to get the last out of the game.
While all this was happening the runs were free flowing (13 in one dig by us) (7 in 2 hits by them).
Our hitters were solid with Josh getting 3 hits, 2 from Browny including a fantastic bunt, Jazzy a lazy barny rubble down 3rd base line, MacRae smashed one to left centre, Rat with a couple, Lester always good for a knock here and there, and a powerful home run by Liam.
All players contributed well with the bat.

* the seconds have had the points revoked and are now out of the finals *

Round 16: VS Melb Uni

We won 5 - 3 against Melbourne Uni.
Coach Whitey homered in style with good team batting by all. Another display of quality base running and 'small ball'.
Jake found some form and closed the game well. Mr reliable led the way once again pitching another great performance and well supported by Josh
behind the dish.
Thanks tho Browny for helping us out. His experience is a real asset to the team, both on the field and in the dugout .
Greensborough next week in the first final. I reckon we can go all the way!
Congratulations to the guys for finishing the home and away season in 3rd place.

Round 15: VS Westgarth

We played Westgarth at Merri Park finally winning 9 - 4.
Jake on the mound started well but lost control in the 3rd. Steele came on in the 4th and from the get go was most effective throwing a couple of scoreless innings. Sean the 'closer' came in and secured the win for the good guys.
A much needed outing for our part time pitchers with 9 innings finals only 2 weeks away.
The batting was steady all day when late in the game we began to punished their pitcher with a few quality bunts and some strong hitting by lez, scrawny and willo. In the last 2 inning we managed to steal a few runs by some aggressive base running, lets keep that up.
All in all, solid win and bring on the finals.
Next week last regular season game Melb uni @ home.

Round 14: VS Research

Monty 6 vs. Research 4
On a cold wintery day at Glenauburn Park we played Research in a tough game .
The win was up for grabs for most of the game and we edged them out at the end 6 - 4 .
It was a pitchers duel between Zucchet and Troy Davies for Research through 4 innings when Jake replaced Woggo and pounded the zone.
Defensively Liam Crivelli was outstanding, very Jeteresc!
Our hitters for the day were Josh with a knock to start things off, Liam with some power and MacRae getting a crucial late hit.
We must win our last 2 games to play in the finals.
Next weeks we take on Westgarth away.

Round 13: VS Greensborough

Monty 5 vs Greensborough 9.
A good crowd gathered at Monty on Sunday to watch us host Greensborough .
Not a good day at the office for our boys . The bats were ok with Jizzio finding some extra power with his first bomb of the year and only a few scattered hits amongst the rest.
Our defence was a little loose, silly mistakes that we need to cut out of our game if we want to be around late August.
Jake found some form on the bump and Woggo was tidy once again.
We need to keep winning to keep our finals hopes alive.
Next week Research @ lefty heaven.

Round 12: VS Croydon

The Monty boys travelled to Croydon and went home with a 12-6 win . Croydon has been a bit of a hoodoo ground for us over the past few years .
Whitey, of the DW variety was outstanding at right field with 2 spectacular plays . Josh was excellent behind the dish and with the bat .
Mr reliable Zucchet threw 5 digs for 1 run just painting the strike zone!. Jake (just back from the academy) struggled for control and was helped by Whitey to close the game.
Our hitters were on top again with Gerraty, Les, Josh and Rat leading the way.
Next Sunday hosting Greensborough in another must win game.

Round 11: VS Watsonia

Another win 4 - 2 against Watsonia at Malcolm Blair Reserve .
We need to keep winning to cement our spot in the top 4 .
A lack lustre start for the boys. Behind on the scoreboard for most of the game . We continued to battle hard with Woggo improving as the game progressed . The boys manufactured some runs late in the game to achieve a most satisfying win .
Defence was good combined with hits from J Crivelli, Toulson , McCoy and some spectacular base running by the fresh legs of D.W.White!
Lets back it up next week vs Croydon.

Round 10: VS Heathmont

Score - Monty 9, Heathmont 2.
We hosted Heathmont on a cold wet wintery day .
Woggo performed well once again. Only low light was his brother got a cheap hit off him up the middle.
Rat closed the game again in style, throwing his usual care free gas!
Scrawny`s bat continued to be hot with multiple hits. Once again, most players hit with authority while AJ brought down a little rain with one of his big league popups!.
A welcome cameo appearance by ex Monty player Gary McCoy . Gary had many interesting stories to tell in the dugout about his involvement with MLB players and clubs .
Solid team performance and welcome back to Macrae.

Round 9: VS Knox

21 - 2
A strong win by the boys against our usual tough opponents. Woggo pitched a complete game and had a day out making their hitters look silly! Well done! In the First inning Josh, Liam and Sean hit back to back to back solo homers! Some thing ive never seen before! That totally set the tone for the day.
Sean went 5 from 5 and Liam hit his second bomb for the game being a grand slam!
All players contributing with the bat achieving this powerful win.
The last three weeks the boys are 65 runs for and only 4 against! I think we are on fire!

Round 8: VS Panton Hill

21 - 2
We visited Panton Hill on a cold winters day. Coach White was on the mound and controlled the game with his usual bag of tricks. Sean and Josh pitched the last 2 innings. Behind the dish was Jarrod Crivelli who did a fine job. The bats were hot again with Sean, Josh and Willo leading the way. Gibbo and Nick Carlton came up from the 3rds and performed well, good job guys.
Next week we take on the mighty Knox.

Round 7: VS Forest Hill

We played host this week to Forest Hill. A powerful win 23 - 0 to us!
The Monty bats were on fire against mediocre Forest Hill pitching and defence. Scrawny and Jazzi'o let the assault with all players gaining hits. Woggo once again controlled the game on the mound and funny enough with the bat also!, he was then supported by rookie pitcher Rat, who has a superb 6 k's on 2 innings! All in all, great day for the Monty boys and next week we take on Panton Hill @ the Hilla Dome.

Round 6: VS Ringwood

Monty 2nds travelled to the ballpark behind the chocolate factory. This week against Ringwood Saints out bats were a little quite against steady pitching.
The Rat, Liam, Scrawny managed a few knocks with a few scattered hits amongst the rest.
Woggo once again performed well with much support in the field, and Jakes performance was also much improved. All is all the intensity was down, we just went thought the motions.
We have the week off and after the break we have Forest Hill, let’s come back fresh and with all bats firing.
Final score Ringwood 5, Monty 2.

Round 5: VS Melbourne Uni

D.L. CARVES UP AND DISHES MELBOURNE UNI THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON
And, I'm not sure why no one has beaten this team before. We scored a pretty handy 19 runs against them without much regard to their perfect record this season.
The score line of 19-11 was not as close as it seemed in the end. The Uni'ans scored 8 runs in the bottom half of an otherwise dismissed game by all watching. Quite unique was the fact that every member of the Monty team received at least one hit and scored at lease one run for the day.
Exceptional standouts for the day were: Josh "Bone Crusher" Collis, three hits including 2 doubles and a number of crafty defensive plays.
Daniel "Waugo" Zuchett, starting to receive serious credibility status in the team for his consistent domination of the opposing hitters.
Liam Crivelli continues to be the unluckiest man in baseball, with his line outs to fielders and fluke plays to get him out. "The man of steele" Ratcliffe or "The Rat" for short is without doubt the best defensive 3rd baseman in the comp. Offensively, he is probably good for a couple of knocks a game including at least one double.
Behind the dish, down from the ones this week was D.L. White. How was his catching??? Who cares! With the bat, D.L.racked up one of the most impressive performances ever seen in a Monty uniform. In his 5 at bats for the game, D.L.chalked up 15 total bases including 3 Home Runs, a double and a single. Gee Dave, what happened on those other two at bats?
Next week, the boys take on Ringwood. Maybe the Saints should say an extra prayer before they take on the ever building Monty force coming into their hollowed ground behind the dairy mild factory.

Round 4: VS Westgarth

"Sean "Scrawny" Toulson turns 200 against the Where's Wally's"
The game, unfortunately was closer than the score dictated. The young VIS pitcher for the "Wally's" seemed to keep the Monty boys at bay for most of the game. It was good to see the "Brown Dog" looking like he actually got some sleep the night before. Although he was still battling the big Donut with Tri-Coach Dave White to see who could make the most outs this season.
On the bump was the "Zooooooooooooook" who looked fantastic and delivered the goods once again. Jake "the snake" O'Reilly finished off the last couple innings in overpowering fashion and drove a shot past the 3rd baseman who still hasn't seen it.
Offensively, who else but "Mr. 200" lead the way with a couple of knocks including a screaming double to the right centre wall, scoring 2 Behind the dish this week was GMACK who also punished the opposing pitchers with a couple shots of his own.
Liam Crivelli ate up anything that was hit his way at short and proved once again with the bat, he is probably too good for this level. Next week, we're on the road to play Melbourne Uni. Congratulations to Scrawny on his milestone at only age 24. Better watch out Lester, if Sean plays another Hundred years, he might just catch your club record. Wow.

Round 3: VS Research

Well with Wayne's wedding and the school boys tournement in Geelong all 4 sides were struggling for numbers . But that's no excuse !!! What can be described as only a very poor effort mainly in the field we allowed a very average team like research 2nds to give us a lesson in how to attack and outplay a much more skilled side . They kept pushing all day applying pressure and as we have done so many times in the past couple of years sat back and waited until the last innings to try and make up ground . Dave "coach" White was fantastic all day on the mound throwing plenty of strikes and not walking a single hitter . keeping us in the game , but poor poor poor defence cost us the game !!
There were only a couple of highlights Nick " I slept in " Carlton had a good game with a couple of hits and good work at 1st . Geoff " pat yourself on the back " Prido hit the hardest ball of the day ! pity it was a bunt to 3rd which he somehow manage to beat out to first base . And coach Dave "Ricky Henderson "White's amazing base runner skills had to be seen to be believed.
Well this week we need to bounce back strong against Westgarth ! Let make it a committed effort from the start with plenty of chatter , good plate discipline and a much improved effort in the field .
Good Luck to Sean "Scawny" Toulson for his 200th game for the club. well done "halfer" im sure there plenty more to come !

Round 2: VS Greensborough

Highlights:
Our pitchers came out firing after a disappointing start last week. Zuk only pitched two innings as he is competing in the schoolboy championships this week (good luck). Jake pitched 3 1/3 innings to make sure Greensborough really couldn't get into the game. David L White finished the game off well.
We hit the ball well, we run the bases well and our defence was excellent. We didn't miss a signal all day (except maybe Steele who thought he had a green light) and our execution of the short game was really good.
We also discovered that we can play out of position and still play good baseball. Steel, Josh, Liam, David,Paul and Andrew were all in different positions from the week before. Our intensity levels were good (with out being great) to ensure that we did enough to get our first win. The challenge is to ensure that we catch up our loss to Croydon.
Lowlights:
Jarrad Crivelli - Sore finger after catching a fly ball at left field in the chest. Mark Ellis - Pulled a....something after running a double into a single.
