GMBC A Reserve were triumphant over Heathmont A Res Grade 9-4 on Saturday at Melbourne Baseball Club.
Heathmont A Res Grade jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Chris Nicholas grounded out, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.
GMBC A Reserve tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a double by Mathew Kent, a single by Liam Crivelli, and a single by Christian Caminiti.
A single by Ayden Johnston gave Heathmont A Res Grade the lead, 4-3, in the top of the second.
GMBC A Reserve captured the lead, 7-4, in the bottom of the fourth when Mitch Ramsey drew a walk, scoring one run, Ethan Kent grounded out, scoring one run, and Marc Sandy doubled, scoring two runs.
Caminiti led things off on the mound for GMBC A Reserve. The hurler allowed nine hits and four runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking none. Josh White began the game for Heathmont A Res Grade. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Simon Fitzmaurice pitched two innings of scoreless ball for GMBC A Reserve in relief. The hurler surrendered two hits, striking out three and walking none.
Caminiti and Sandy each collected two hits for GMBC A Reserve. Sandy went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. GMBC A Reserve turned one double play in the game.
Heathmont A Res Grade amassed 11 hits in the game. Declan Marshall, Johnston, Tevin Kuruwita, Nicholas, and Lachlan Williams-Dyson each collected two hits for Heathmont A Res Grade. Johnston and Nicholas were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Heathmont A Res Grade. Heathmont A Res Grade were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Jamie Bastian had the most chances in the field with eight.
